Location: Cleveland, OH
Completed: 2025
Collaborators: Western Reserve Land Conservancy, City Architecture
Thurgood Marshall Green represents a significant investment in urban revitalization, transforming a 2.6-acre vacant school property into a community-focused park in the heart of the Hough neighborhood of Cleveland, OH. The site sits directly adjacent to the Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center, creating the perfect opportunity for play, exercise, and community to extend outdoors. Featuring an event pavilion, outdoor grilling and seating, an exercise area, and natural playground equipment, the new Thurgood Marshall Green reflects the community's desires and is a much-appreciated investment in the neighborhood.

An ode to

Symbolism and education
9 trees line the loop path: 8 light pink varieties to represent the other justices, and 1 dark pink variety to represent Thurgood Marshall's solitude as the first African American Supreme Court Justice.
Space for
generations
Seniors, children, community
The design and programming of Thurgood Marshall Green was shaped directly by input from Hough residents. They desired an intergenerational park that would provide spaces for the community to gather, children to play, and adults to walk and exercise.
