Coventry P.E.A.C.E. Park in Cleveland Heights, OH, originated in 1993 as a grassroots initiative led by local residents, students, and parents. However, over time the park deteriorated, and by 2021, safety concerns prompted needed renovation. The renovation of Coventry P.E.A.C.E Park improves safety, introduces varied and vibrant outdoor amenities, and supports local arts and culture initiatives for a deeply loved community asset in the Coventry neighborhood of Cleveland Heights, OH. The centerpiece of the project are reimagined playgrounds, replacing the original volunteer-built structures with nature themed play and a custom-designed cardinal play feature. A new circulation system ties the park together with ADA-accessible paths, a storybook loop, and
realigned entrances, creating clear sight lines and connectivity throughout the park and into the surrounding neighborhood.

Re-envisioned
by the
community
A park for and by the people
Over a three-year planning process, community members emphasized visibility, safety, accessibility, and preserving the spirit of the original park.
Play with a
sense of place
Safe, accessible, iconic
The cardinal play structure has become a new face for the park and a symbol of joy for the community.

“In terms of visual communication, what was done at the PEACE Park, I think, was a home run. If you look at that over the past two years and what they showed visually into what reality is, it’s just spot on.”
- Lou Radivoyevitch, Cleveland Heights resident

"My kids were obsessed with climbing inside and outside the giant Cardinal (yep, it’s a whole play structure!) before zooming down the super-fast slide. And if your crew loves a good thrill, they’ll be all over the rope swing and zip line. Both are kid-approved favorites. While this new playground isn’t quite as large as the old one, I actually think that’s a win—it’s so much easier to keep an eye on your kiddos without them disappearing behind a maze of equipment."
