The Noble Library in Cleveland Heights, OH has served as a vital community resource since its inception in 1925. In response to recent participatory budgeting efforts and extensive community engagement, the building has undergone a significant renovation and expansion to allow for larger, better-defined programming for all ages, including new public meeting rooms, a computer lab, and a maker space. The surrounding landscape supports the new program with a multi-purpose amphitheater and picnic area, reading nooks, a scenic walk, and a communal vegetable garden. The success of the project is deeply rooted in the community's input and commitment to education, access, and inclusion.

The space to slow down
A new path along the building front offers a quieter and more scenic alternative to busy Noble Road. Wi-Fi, charging stations, and subtle lighting ensure safety and functionality at all hours.

The space to connect
Composed of a series of stone-edged retaining walls, the amphitheater connects the lawn to the library and provides a versatile space for performances, town halls, and educational events.

"From neighbors of all ages, City Council, community planners and the broader library community we have received immense praise for the transformation of this corner of our city."
- Nancy Levin, Director, Cleveland Heights Libraries

"A number of picnic tables and trees settled into stone fines remind me of a European park on a much smaller scale."
- Nancy Levin, Director, Cleveland Heights Library
