The Noble Library in Cleveland Heights, OH has served as a vital community resource since its inception in 1925. In response to recent participatory budgeting efforts and extensive community engagement, the building has undergone a significant renovation and expansion to allow for larger, better-defined programming for all ages, including new public meeting rooms, a computer lab, and a maker space. The surrounding landscape supports the new program with a multi-purpose amphitheater and picnic area, reading nooks, a scenic walk, and a communal vegetable garden. The success of the project is deeply rooted in the community's input and commitment to education, access, and inclusion.

The space to connect

Composed of a series of stone-edged retaining walls, the amphitheater connects the lawn to the library and provides a versatile space for performances, town halls, and educational events.

"A number of picnic tables and trees settled into stone fines remind me of a European park on a much smaller scale."
